Flooring for a lake community
Locust Grove sits about twenty-five minutes west of our shop on Route 3, past the Wilderness battlefield area and into Orange County. The heart of the area is Lake of the Woods, a gated community with everything from decades-old lake cottages to newer full-time homes, plus a steady stream of new construction along the Route 3 corridor further out.
A lot of the older Lake of the Woods homes were built as weekend or vacation properties, which means original pine floors under later carpet, dated tile, or vinyl that's simply reached the end of its life. As more owners move to Locust Grove full time or start renting seasonally, we're doing more complete flooring updates that need to handle year-round humidity and lake traffic, not just a weekend or two.

Locust Grove flooring, answered
What Lake of the Woods and Locust Grove homeowners usually ask before booking.
Do you work inside Lake of the Woods?
Yes, we regularly work inside Lake of the Woods and other gated communities around Locust Grove. Let us know about any gate registration or access process ahead of your estimate and we'll build it into the schedule.
What flooring holds up best in a lake house?
Waterproof LVP is the most common choice for homes near the water, since it shrugs off wet feet, sandy shoes and the humidity swings that come with weekend and seasonal use. Tile is a close second in bathrooms and mudrooms. For full-time residents who want a warmer feel, we'll talk through moisture-tolerant engineered hardwood as well.
Can you refinish the original pine floors in an older lake cottage?
Often, yes. A lot of the older cabins and cottages around Lake of the Woods have original pine or fir floors under carpet or worn finish. We sand carefully, since softer woods scratch and gouge more easily than oak, and finish with a durable coat that can handle sandy feet and pets.
How far is Locust Grove from your shop?
About twenty-five minutes west on Route 3 from our shop off Oak Grove Drive, through the Wilderness battlefield area and into Orange County. We factor that drive into every estimate and schedule.
