Sand & repair

Seal coats

Cure time

When to refinish vs replace
Most hardwood can be refinished more than once, but not every floor is a good candidate. Here's how we tell homeowners to think about it.
Refinish if…
The boards are solid underfoot, the finish is worn, scratched or dull, and the wood has never been sanded past its usable wear layer. Most solid hardwood can handle several refinishes over its lifetime before it runs out of material.
Replace if…
Boards are cracked, rotted or missing large sections, an engineered floor has already been sanded down to its base layer, or water damage has warped the subfloor underneath. In those cases new hardwood or custom hardwood makes more sense than another refinish.

How long does refinishing take start to finish?
Most single rooms are done in about a week, including cure time. A full first floor can run seven to ten days depending on square footage and how much repair the boards need.
When should I refinish instead of replace my floors?
Refinish if the boards are solid underfoot and the finish is just worn, scratched or dull. Replace if boards are cracked or rotted, an engineered floor is already sanded to its base layer, or water has warped the subfloor.
Can you match new sections to our original heart pine?
In most cases yes. We source pine that matches the grain and age as closely as possible, then blend the stain so patched sections read as part of the original floor rather than a visible repair.
